D.Di Mascios impressive fleet of ice cream vans worked the streets of Coventry and surrounding areas for more than half of the last century. Such was their influence a new word came into the local dialect; asking for a 'D. Di' can still be heard occasionally even today. The Di Maschio name is from Valvori, near Cassino in Italy. Their first premises were in King William Street around the 1930's, others opened later in Smithfield Street and Clay Lane. There are over 70 vehicles that are known to have been in the D.Di Mascio's fleet, the Anglia was the last.
The last Anglia, the 105E, appeared in 1959 and when it ceased production in 1967 over 1,000,000 units had been produced. With a top speed of 73.8 mph it could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 26.9 seconds. Variants included an estate and a panel van.
